Holla my friends ✋ come back with me Yuvi Sri Widia in my first blog in 4th semester. This blog will contain a review of journals that will become the foundation when I do research later. Well, I chose a journal about Reading. The title is "Improving Students’ Reading Competence through DRTA ( Directed Reading Thinking Activity) Technique" Writing by Pamadya Vitasmoro. The reason why i'm choosing the journals because When I read an English text I was still having problems in thinking about the main idea or purpose of the text.
So, let's see to the introduction in this journal.
INTRODUCTION
The eucation of Indonesia, especially in English learning, is often complained of many students. Although English has been introduced since primary up to university it is still assumed as a difficult subject to be learn. Especially in the ability to read English text. According to the National Reading panel (2001) reading is a set of skills that allows rapid decodes text while maintaining high comprehension. So the point of reading must be able to understand what the contents of the text are. In this journal the research was conducted on students of the D-IV Midwifery Program of Health Sciences Faculty of Kediri University still encounters some difficulties in using their English for comprehending English text. Many students have insufficient skills in reading. They get difficulties in identifying main ideas, finding meaning of new words, recognizing references, determining the text purpose, and determining detailed information. There are reasons that caused the unwanted result of reading class.
The first is the passage itself which is difficult to understand by the students, the second is the teacher's teaching technique teaches reading and last is in the class atmospheresilent. One of the steps to link the students' reading competence is through the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) technique. It is an instructional activity that used predicting and confirming strategies to help build critical reading and thinking skills.
